I'd (of course for those who know me) suggest taking a little time to learn JavaEE (not J2EE). I have had great success with the examples from TomEE (free) + the (paid) videos from Adam Bien (I normally shun videos but lke his). The examples from TomEE often come in the form of something you can run with a single maven command.
