For the first case, I think you want a view in normal lighting conditions, and not the low-light view of the scene. What expectations of a well-lit scene would look like in regular balanced full color (cloudless summer noon daylight or similar), and then the enhanced color low light version (overcast, moonless star light). A split-screen view, with half the screen in pitch black wouldn't illustrate much.
