The update part is only one piece, the much bigger piece is having a non-device-dependent infrastructure.
The idea to build an OS for every device simply doesn't scale.

- ce4 10y agoIsnt Google's Fuchsia the project to tackle this very problem? On the other hand it has potential for even more 'closed source'-ness on the handset manufacturer side of Android. And maybe even for other industries, once its market share rises.
