"A full picture of the Mac’s UX design includes advertising, store layout, the purchase process, the box, the documentation, how it feels to hold, the esteem and social meaning of owning it, and so on."
At some point does it become so all encompassing to be meaningless as a term?
- noblethrasher 10y agoWe might need a new all-encompassing term, but UX is definitely theater. The stuff on the screen is just one of many props used in the “performance”. Apple seems to be the only company that gets this.
- martin-adams 10y agoI call it end-to-end UX and while a lot of UX designers focus only on the UI, no, I do not think it's a meaningless term. There's still a lot of confusion over what UX really means and a lot of designers don't design for the end-to-end experience.
- fnordsensei 10y agoDo a search on "service design", and you'll find plenty of information on designing at that level of scope, all-encompassing as it may seem. "Service design is the activity of planning and organizing people, infrastructure, communication and material components of a service in order to improve its quality and the interaction between the service provider and its customers." (From Wikipedia) It's less common that I see UX defined in such broad terms, however.
