Luckily, poor in the Netherlands is not the same as poor in the US, also, my parents knew how to handle money quite well, so we managed. A lot of my neightbours, however did not. I've seen what being poor does to health. What it does to behavior towards others, who seem to 'have more', but just spend it differently. What it does to expectations and opportunities of their children. I'm sure that money doesn't make you happy, it often does make you happier than being in the exact same situation without money.
