- wyldfire 10y agoFYI this synonym in English is written "strait" (it is an easily-confused homophone with "straight.")
- kpil 10y agoFjord or Fiord is more or less the same word as Firth. It was spelled Firþ in old English. Not sure what's going on with the 'o'. It turned into Fjärd in Swedish. At least on the east coast.
- haukur 10y agoIn Icelandic (which hasn't changed much since the settlement of Iceland) it's "fjörður". In Old Norse it would've been "fjörðr".
