The quotas are not motivated by a desire to force a perfect split. Rather, they're attempting to correct a current imbalance create by past and present sexism. I agree that it's a blunt and sloppy instrument. Of course it would be better to attack the root cause and eliminate sexism, and then any imbalances would be perfectly acceptable. If only we could figure out how.
- Qantourisc 10y agoYour numbers might improve, but there is a change if you don't find good candidates, you have to fill them in with bad candidates. This could make things worse in the long term because all those poor candidates results in a reinforcement of the assumptions that men are better at <insert job>. Except for politics, can't be bad at having an opinion ;) Or jobs that any human should be able to perform.
- m_fayer 10y agoLike I said, blunt, sloppy instrument with many unintended consequences, and the one you're pointing out is a big concern. That's why replacing quotas with many smaller gentler "nudges" may be preferable.
- james_watson_ii 10y agoThis so-called "sexism" has never truly existed. There has only been sexual dimorphism and its consequences. Societies that put women in charge of military strategy and soldiering did not survive against those who put men in those positions. The reason being that natural selection has specialized the role of each sex quite narrowly, such that major deviations from said niche result in severe fitness costs. As such, we can dream up post-modern utopias where the Y chromosome is just a social construct along with testosterone and its resultant physiological effects. However, natural selection will drag us kicking and screaming back to reality, every single time. Don't believe me? Sort countries across the world by birthrate. Notice something? The "feminist" countries are doomed. They have the lowest birthrates, by far. They will cease to exist within a century, some even sooner. The future belongs to those who show up. Post-modern feminism is a death cult, a suicidal memeplex that will without fail destroy any human society that embraces it. It is fascinating, but evolution cannot be bargained with, and it cannot be protested into submission. Natural selection is not only a force of nature, it IS nature. Relentless, omnipresent, and eternal.
- projektir 10y agoWhenever I read something like this, I have one question: If this is how you believe the world is and it cannot be changed... why the hell do you want to live in it? Why do you care about it? Why do you promote its principles?
- m_fayer 10y agoThat's a grim religion you got there.
