The entire purpose of manufacturing for as long as it has existed and any farm equipment is to use technology to make fewer workers more productive. We never crossed a robotics or automation rubicon. Manufacturing has been getting more productive every year we have had it.
Arguing against robotics is the same as arguing against computers and it is the same as arguing against assembly lines and it is the same as arguing against electricity.
You are arguing against the entire industrial revolution. On a website powered by the Internet and electricity to talk about technology.
- avmich 10y agoI don't think that's the end of the discussion. May be it's a good time to argue against the entire industrial revolution? Or if it isn't, why?
- pwthornton 10y agoWe are going to argue against the entire industrial revolution because some white dudes are upset that they have to work for good jobs now?
- throwaway2048 10y agoJust because something has been true in the past, dosent mean it will remain true in the future. So many people have some kind of unshakable faith that millions of new jobs are going to materialize once a huge percentage of the population has been made redundant by automation. Can you name any, even in theory? What happens when a machine is better than a human in almost every conveivable occupation? Nobody has any good answers as to where these millions of jobs are going to materalize from. This time is going to be different.
