The person you are responding to never said we live in a post-racial society.
- foldr 10y agoThey didn't use those exact words, but the comment clearly suggests that racial discrimination no longer exists, and that there are few if any real instances of hate crimes.
- jpttsn 10y agoI think you have enemies that believe racial discrimination doesn't exist, and then you too eagerly fit random internet commenters into that pattern of your enemies.
- foldr 10y agoIt's actually simpler than that. I just read the comment. It clearly says that hate crimes are largely made up.
- HeavenBanned 10y agoRacism never went anywhere, it's just bubbling close to the surface and could blow up at any time if it weren't for the laws we have on the books. That's the fact of the matter. If you privately polled the deep south: "If there was a way to liquidate all muslims and blacks from America without anyone knowing about it carried out by a secret gov't plan, would you endorse it?" I guaran-fucking-tee you they would vote overwhelmingly to do so. That in my opinion is much more frightening than anything. The racism never went anywhere, it's just jammed beneath the surface and glossed over. It was similar to a poll I read that said: "Should we get rid of American muslim's ability to vote?" Something like 50+% of deep south supporters voted in the affirmative. Now imagine if they had power to do so. Imagine if the North lost the civil war. Remember: a MILLION americans died over the civil war. ONE FUCKING MILLION. This is not an over-and-done-with issue. We are still at war with the south. Always will be. I hope they secede, to be honest because they are continually a weak-link that drags the north down. So much racism in this country it's mind-boggling. Just because you fucking forced a couple black kids to go to a white school doesn't mean that we now live in a post-racial society. It just means that white-flight is gonna happen and the mechanisms by which the state forces school to integrate are no longer needed because there are no black people in white neighborhoods and vice-versa. This is compounded significantly by class issues.
