  Shouldn't OSX run most tools written for unix/linux?

    Before I started working on this webapp, I tried running the FPGA tools on Mac OS X without much success. That was in the days of PowerPC Macs though. Getting the necessary libraries to play nicely was a great pain. After Virtualbox came out, running FPGA tools on my Mac became possible.

    You'd think that, but no, there are often quirky issues. I've seen some apps port easier to cygwin on windows then to IntelMac.
