It is possible to compete with Google by offering what they used to have: simplicity and speed, and not screwing with results. Google is beginning to show signs of accidental self-sabotage. Their AMP approach was so aggravating for me on mobile that I literally switched search engines to avoid it. And their insistence on scraping and summarizing things and trying to prevent you from even visiting other sites is slowly ruining even desktop searches. They are in danger of disruption.
