You can't change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust your sails. Practical advice about how the world works always pisses off people who are more interested in bitching about how unfair it is.
- emodendroket 10y agoIt would be quite a different world we live in if everyone thought that way.
- icebraining 10y agoUnfathomable as it may sound, one can adjust one's sails and still bitch about how unfair it is.
- andrewclunn 10y agoSomething I never implied couldn't be done, but which others do, by virtue of attacking any offering such practical advice.
- Mvandenbergh 10y agoThere's often a conflict between effective and practical advice to individuals on the one hand and dealing with broader social issues on the other. I might believe that cleaners should be paid more and that there's nothing wrong with manual labour, that doesn't mean I'd tell my children - living in today's world as it is - that there's no reason they should prefer a job as a cleaner to a job as a lawyer or an engineer.
