Ask HN: What do most people in tech agree on but would never say publicly?
- mattbgates 10y ago"I'm working on a side project in hopes to make extra money because my job isn't paying me what I really want to be making."
- onmobiletemp 10y agoSnapchat is worthless?
- taway_1212 10y ago"It's just a job".
- open-source-ux 10y agoTake these with a pinch of salt...while the general sentiment in these statements definitely exist, I couldn't say how widespread they are... Delusions of grandeur? Publicly: "We've built a truly innovate/revolutionary/life changing app/product/technology." Privately: "Product XYZ isn't really innovative/revolutionary/going to change the world. It's just a mundane bit of tech, that might be slightly useful to someone. And of course it's ridiculously oversold and overhyped." Online privacy Publicly: "We're deeply committed to your online privacy." Privately: "We don't really care about your online privacy and will happily track you to death."

- arlinson 10y ago- Diversity hurts middle class white collar worker in the long term and used as a tool by elites to keep them in power. - forced diversity never works - hiring based on the race or gender has never worked and never will.
- giaour 10y agoI disagree, and this isn't a good fit for the question. Most people who believe that drivel say it often when anonymous on the internet.
- bfkekdnrjfjei 10y agoPeople say it anonymously on the Internet because, if said in the public square, they are often faced violence and censorship rather than rational discourse.
- donga99 10y agoWhy is it not a good fit? Because your candidate lost election depsite all hurr durr? Well, majority of people on this site are SJWs. They are rich because of connections. But, when it comes to rational arguments most are weak. Do you why women in tech campaign is going on? That's because elites want to increase labor supply. More supply means less wages. As most industries are shifting to use technology, they don't want to pay higher wages. I work for a large tech company. Hiring committee rejected outstanding candidate to favor a woman who did some bootcamp off the hook and was a real estate agent previously. She agreed for 78k salary whereas male candidate was asking for 95k. Again, diversity never works.
