- metaphor 10y ago8K@60Hz appears to be the end-game bandwidth limit[1] of DP over USB-C, although I suspect the pragmatic reality of the situation will ultimately be driven by cable length limits. I'm really struggling to wrap my mind around how sensibly pushing 100W of power out of a wee little USB-C port on a laptop might look though. - Matthias247 10y agoAfaik the Displayport Alternate mode of USB-C is limited to Displayport 1.2, which means 4k@60Hz max. For that reason the external Apple/LG 5k displays use the Thunderbolt3 mode of USB-C instead of Displayport. It could also be possible that faster displayport alternate modes could be possible, but are just not available on current-gen transceivers.
