I've been making semi-regular (about once a year) visits to the same places in Shanghai over the last few years and it always amazes me how a) each time there is so much change and b) how much the locals seem to take this change for granted. When the economy grows at a steady 10% every year and the real estate market at 30%, people's expectations simply get a lot higher. The potential for growth simply a lot higher than in Europe or the US and people adjust their expectations.
