Trump prefers to view the world from the mind of a simpleton/common man, which means he exhibits some regressive views. Since many liberal activists gained agency, during Obama's administration, I don't think some liberals will ever get over Trump's disregard or indifference about the meta-matters.
> what should have been a career-ending display of explicit bias and a flagrant disrespect for disabled individuals was glossed over.
The word "should" is always a mask for "I believe". This often puts statements in proper context. I don't believe that a political career is ended by marginalizing or demeaning a subset of society. Just because you're offended, doesn't mean the end of a political career. It's not just possible you're in the minority, it's likely (as is true for myself).
Trump didn't specifically try to marginalize a segment of the population, but the comic text tries to infer this non-event from one instance of insensitivity toward an individual. Who that individual was is irrelevant, but it's an attack ad so you have to build up the victim. The narrative shows a bit of inconsistency, to this end.
As I have a disabled sister, this did not resonate with me at all.
