Go made me appreciate static typing and a compiler. Before picking up Go around the 1.0 release, the last time I spent any significant time with those tools was 10 years prior as an undergrad using Java. Java really made me hate those things. I spent the years in between with languages like Ruby, JavaScript, and Python. Now I actually prefer using compiled, statically typed languages, Rust being the most recent one for me (and I still dislike Java).
