My first impulse, if I'm told I have to pick 'one' language, is to fall back to my desert island languages, C and C++. I'm incredibly productive in Python, but if I have to pick 'one', I'd rather work from first principles. It's not like I couldn't make a node.js clone in C/C++ from scratch, if I had to.
