Actually surprised that this doesn't exist already! Don't think there is anything wrong with making it easier/faster to find the information that other government systems may already have
- Mikeb85 10y agoOf course it existed already. But there were forces at work who didn't want to enforce immigration laws - cheap labour benefits quite a few industries.
- mikeash 10y agoWould you be OK with it if your local police force could access every bit of data the Feds have on you?
- tedunangst 10y agoNo... but if the FBI gives the local PD an account on their mysql database, I'm not going to protest mysql. This story somehow manages to make it sound like the CIA wanted to keep this information secret, but then ICE hired palantir to hack the gibson. Focusing on the wrong players.
- mikeash 10y agoNo argument there. The tool itself is fine. If there's a problem with how it's being used then that's on the agencies using it. Palantir isn't doing anything nefarious.
