That doesn't mean there's nothing to see here. The fact remains that the official metrics are getting worse, and the changes can be reasonably ascribed to people choosing to opt out and play video games (among other things). In another decade we'll be reading articles like this one, but the share of young males opting out will go from 14% to at least 20%, maybe even 25%, if the trends hold. How long until 50% of young males are opting out? And consider that as that number rises those are men who are not buying stuff (better for the environment, but worse for the economy), getting married, having kids, starting businesses, etc
