About a year and a half ago, I was out hunting and stopped to listen. I closed my eyes and absorbed all of the sounds around me. I got into the moment and when I opened my eyes, I had lost my bearings. I knew the area well enough that within a minute or so I deduced what was where but I didn't have that instinctive feeling of where things were. In that moment, I understood how people can get lost in unfamiliar woods.
People who live their entire lives in urban or suburban areas have no concept of just how far two miles through dense woods really is when you're on foot.
Don't ever take nature lightly, it's been killing us for a long time.
