Did a military long tour in Germany in the 80's. Returning was jarring. There were TV series that I had missed entirely or major parts of, ("V", "Miami Vice", etc) that had become part of the culture. Public trash cans freaked me out -- all the ones on military bases and in major German cities had been removed because of the Red Army Faction terrorist threat. Walmart went from "Who?" to "OMG this place has everything!" Finally got to eat Pop Tarts again.
