Ask HN: Is no management training at a large startup normal?
I've asked for management training before and been turned down with statements that the best way to train up a manager is trial by fire / on the job training, rather than formal management training. Is this normal at large startups (300+ employees)?
- brudgers 10y agoIt is not uncommon throughout business even at the enterprise level and certainly common in small organizations (and 300 employees is small). On the other hand, the premise that management training is valuable suggests that one can try to learn management skills and study management theory on one's own if they want to learn management.
