PolyConf – Programming conference for polyglot and full stack programmers
- philnash 10y agoI spoke at PolyConf in 2015 and had a great time. I'm excited that it's moving to Paris and I'll be putting a proposal in soon!
- throwaway7645 10y agoIf it's in Paris, maybe the OCaml & Pharo teams can show up. Well technically Pharo is built by people worldwide, but I want to say the head guy is French.
- zaiste 10y agoYes, we are trying to attract both OCaml and ReasonML people at this occasion.
- throwaway7645 10y agoNever heard of ReasonML
- ccvannorman 10y agoAny advice for a prospective speaker applicant? I want to highlight the intersection artificial intelligence, video games, and education. I'm a math game developer.
- tomkuk 10y agoCan't wait for Polyconf Morning Run in Paris! Hope you will not drop this idea...
- sgrove 10y agoFor me, PolyConf is a bit like the Strange Loop of Europe, which is one of the highest compliments possible for a conference. * It was well organized * Had quite a range of topics on interesting topics that poked you right in the intellectual curiosity * Had an audience that was eager to talk about esoteric ideas, but still able to bring it back to a semi-pragmatic form - rare to be able to walk those lines * Just a lot of fun Usually I'm quite exhausted after conferences, but I came away from Polyconf feeling energized about programming, creating (and destroying), and exploring in a way I hadn't for quite awhile - highly recommended!
- noir_lord 10y agoHigh praise indeed, Strange Loop is developer 'crack' :). I'll check out their videos.
- d3ckard 10y agoBeen to Polyconf while it was in Poznan. Could not recommend it enough! It's a really great conference which is about methods and ideas, not languages. If you can go - go! Thank me later.
- kleebeesh 10y agoOut of curiosity, is the move to Paris permanent? I went to PolyConf 2016 in Poznan. I enjoyed how broad the range of topics was. Although it can be a double-edged sword. Having so many differing backgrounds can make it tough to strike up a meaningful conversation. For example, if someone is super passionate about OCaml, and I've never touched the language, then there's only so far we can take the conversation. I suggested at one point to have people's top interests printed on their name cards to narrow the search space a little.
- zaiste 10y agoIf we manage to organise a good event this year, we will probably stay in Paris. There were many different factors that lead to the decision to move to Paris. It wasn't an easy decision, but our team thinks it's the right thing to do... Great idea with topics printed on badges. We will do it! :) Thanks for the suggestion!
- bradurani 10y agoI spoke and attended last year. It's the best conference I've ever been to (and I've been to at least 40). Here are a few of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v68ppDlvHqs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v68ppDlvHqs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjASqh5z8ck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjASqh5z8ck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9AwYiwIvXE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9AwYiwIvXE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96YwY7Lld0Q&t=148s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96YwY7Lld0Q&t=148s
- ccvannorman 10y agoAny advice for a prospective speaker applicant? I'm an educational video game developer (supermathworld.com) and would love to share my experience and insight into the space, especially the intersection of artificial intelligence, education, and simulated worlds.
- fijal 10y agoGreat conference :-) can't recommend it enough
- zaiste 10y agoThanks for the kind words Maciej. I still vividly remember your lectures about PyPy at RuPy in Poznań.
- pyb 10y agoSounds nice, but I am unable to find any ticket info.
- ktRolster 10y agoI thought every programmer was a polyglot.
- pauldruid 10y agoOh sweet summer child.
- Mithaldu 10y agoIn practice a programmer who really, honestly, and absolutely knows only a single language is bound to be exceedingly rare. If you think about it (and possibly include meta-languages) you'll find that the vast majority know at least two, even if they're not fully aware of this fact.
- manume 10y agoSeriously great conference! The concept is really appealing - step out of the echo chamber of your own programming language / framework community and learn a bit about many other languages.
- d--b 10y agoWait, why did the title change to specifically target "full stack programmers"? This is certainly less appealing to me now!
- mholt 10y agoThis looks great. Ha, their travel stipend for speakers is a clever 256 EUR or 1024 EUR (in or outside Europe).
- hmsimha 10y agoAssuming the date displayed on the page, "Jul 7 - Jul 9 2017" is correct, their countdown is off. var countdown = new Date(2017, 7, 26, 1).countdown(); should be var countdown = new Date(2017, 6, 7, 1).countdown();
- obiefernandez 10y agoI delivered a talk about the Next Big Leap (speaking about Ruby on Rails) at this conference when it was RuPy 2011 in Poland. The organizers are top-notch and attract a diverse crowd. Highly recommended!
- zaiste 10y agoThanks Obie for the kind words and for believing in us back in 2011!
- piranha 10y agoI presented (and, obviously, attended) at first year Polyconf and loved every bit of it. Organization is top notch, crowd is cool and you could always find something to speak about and topics are really diverse and engaging. Sadly I couldn't make it last year, but I'm really hoping to fix that this summer. :)

- damnpepe 10y agoThis is the only conference I am attending every year. The best atmosphere and knowledge transfer around.
- will_byrd 10y agoI spoke at PolyConf two year ago, and really enjoyed it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQL48qYDwp4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQL48qYDwp4 There was only one problem--beer instead of milkshakes at the reception. ;)
- mehowte 10y agoI've been there as a speaker, workshop organizer and attendee. It felt great from all those points of view. Main selling points: variety of topics, a lot of great speakers, attention to details I'm sure they'll do a great job in Paris.
