My old standard rubric for workplace culture was adoption of slack - if you hadn't opted for it over synchronous communications or lesser asynchronous tools, you were backwards. Now I look to snapchat. We have a group at my current company (8 people) and it's a well of humanity in what otherwise might be a stodgy professional environment.
