Ask HN: Am I an Idiot?
I am in a "Physics I" class but apparently I need "Physics I for engineering" class. I am even in the lab for that class. I've realized this too late to change much so might as well ride it out.
Doesn't help self confidence when I can't even sign up for right classes though. Lesson learned.
- 11thEarlOfMar 10y agoBetween 7:20 and 7:50 AM this morning, my wife told me literally 5 times not to forget my lunch, "it's in the refrigerator." I forgot my lunch.
- itchyjunk 10y agoI wonder if it's too much for our brain or it selectively does stuff like that. I look at all the innovation and progress and look at myself and feel out of place sometimes.
- AnimalMuppet 10y agoDepending on the institution you're attending, they may consider "Physics I" an adequate prerequisite for whatever you needed "Physics I for engineering" for.
- itchyjunk 10y agoI am in a community college. But this is a little embarrassing. I might just suck it up and go talk to my advisory. I'm trying to go into math major. The later class is more of a mechanics with derivatives while mine doesn't use any calculus.
- AnimalMuppet 10y agoDefinitely suck it up and go talk to your advisor. They've seen people make mistakes before. And, if you're headed for math, well, the physics for engineering class may use more calculus, but the physics for physicists class should give you a better handle on what's actually going on with physics. It's not clear which one is better for a math major (unless one is required by the math department).

- itchyjunk 10y agoI'm just sitting here doing a 20 page lab report on Energy in simple harmonic motion hoping I don't have to retake this class with a slightly different name, haha.
- blackflame7000 10y agoIf it's any solace, mechanical physics was one of my least favorite courses and I can't remember an instance where i've used it since.
