Expansion microscopy is new and exciting, but also still in progress, and I think struggles to identify some of the traditional areas where you have really fine neuropil. I'm actually most excited about Tony Zador and George Church's DNA-barcode approaches. They will potentially give us different answers, though -- DNA barcodes will give us a graph and detailed information about synapse sites, but not a lot about morphology, for example.
