Point taken. Less so than before, but it's still fairly weird in many areas. LA and the Bay both have odd sub-cultures and not-so-far out of the city you get some fairly hippy types, but it depends on a lot. Palo Alto I don't think has ever been quirky. But yes - maybe Portland is the new SF :)
