I agree its not a process of applying for college, its a job. Testing to see whether somehow is a recent BSCS helps to systemically impose all 3 of the most problematic isms, racism. sexism and ageism. You can get brilliant employees from bootcamps, my current coworker is a truly brilliant bootcamp guy. He's African American and decided to skip student loans and go direct for code bootcamp and for front end he's really good. But if you tested him over recent BSCS type of stuff you would be screening out a brilliant front end developer.
- aisofteng 10y agoIt never ceases to amaze me what situations people find a way to shoehorn -isms into. It's a job. It has an application process predicated upon demonstration of some base level of aptitude. Fulfill it or fuck off and apply somewhere else.
- prodigal_erik 10y agoI wouldn't hire a frontend-only guy instead of a qualified developer, for the same reason I wouldn't hire a guy who can only mount wall outlets instead of a qualified electrician. Everything he didn't care enough to learn is a risk.
