I'm still breaking into a software job and had a homework problem for a company, with a week deadline. Since I worked full time, I spent the majority of my free time working on this problem. I was happy with my solution, and disappointed when I was rejected. Rejection is fine, but what upset me more was radio silence when asking for any feedback on my solution. As a young engineer it would have been amazing to get feedback from professionals.
