This is what kids do when you try to enforce a bedtime. I used to get hell for reading actual books under the covers with a flashlight when it was decided that I ought to be sleeping.
- selllikesybok 10y agoSame. Of course, my mom used to catch hell for it too, from her parents. Addictive patterns and compulsive behavior are interesting. Especially our mores about them. Binge watching is good, binge drinking is bad. One of the best things you can say about a movie or show or book is its compelling and you can't stop consuming it. But if you can't stop Cheetos, that's a problem.
- rebootthesystem 10y agoWell, in our case this has nothing to do with enforcing bed time. When your kids look like zombies in the morning because they only got four hours sleep due to the damn games you go into detective mode very quickly. It was simple enough to check-in on them at, say, 1 AM (I'm usually up late doing software/hardware/mechanical engineering work) to discover what they were doing. Sleep is an important component of health, particularly for children.
