There was a court case in the US where Marconi's essential patents on radio transmission were refuted as everything in them were already patented by Tesla.
Marconi was a student and assistant of Tesla for a time and decided to steal his work and go into business for himself.
Unfortunately this is not widely understood and Marconi is still widely thought to have invented radio when in fact it was Tesla.
- woliveirajr 10y agoOh, I love those discussions on who invented what. For example, even a Brazilian Priest might have invented it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landell_de_Moura https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landell_de_Moura
- Johnythree 10y agoThe story of Landell_de_Moura is indeed fascinating. Unfortunately there so many technical errors in the reports that they have to be discounted. It is probable that his wireless claims actually refer to light-beam communications.. If any one was first, it had to be David Edward Hughes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Edward_Hughes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Edward_Hughes Luckily a lot of new material has surfaced recently, including his original notes and apparatus.
- Johnythree 10y ago> Marconi was a student and assistant of Tesla I doubt this very much. Can you give a reference please? "Nikola Tesla: The Guy Who DIDN'T "Invent Radio"" http://earlyradiohistory.us/tesla.htm http://earlyradiohistory.us/tesla.htm
- astrodust 10y agoTesla also invented teleportation and matter cloning if you believe The Prestige.
- kodfodrasz 10y agoIf this would be /pol/ would I be seeing a Serbian flag? ;)
