- sndean 10y agoI've never been in that sort of situation, but I really do wonder how I'd react. Hopefully in healthy way. How do surgeons react when they accidentally cut the wrong thing?
- hunterjrj 10y agoOh man, finally a chance to plug the book "Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death, and Brain Surgery" by Henry Marsh. Marsh chronicles his career, and includes (at least) one story about the slip of the scalpel and the... result. Highly recommended.
- sndean 10y agoCool. This is why I love HN :) I'll make sure my soon-to-be MD girlfriend reads it too
- usernametbd 10y agoI can imagine being that guy in that exact moment. But I can't imagine being that guy after the event. There will be a constant fear and doubt in my mind. And a constant fear whether others trust me anymore. I couldn't quit because that might make me look bad and I couldn't continue because that might make me look bad.
- hanspeter 10y agoThis guy may actually need therapy to not suffer from some light degree of trauma.
- Vaanir 10y agoHe would make good friends with the Gitlab guy very easily I'd imagine.

I was the guy who deployed the update to every one of our servers as I walked out the door for the day. So I know what this feels like. You learn to get through it fast, because there's no other choice, you're almost always the best placed person to clean up the mess. And one day you can look back and the scars have healed.
- Exuma 10y agoDamn! Thanks for sharing your story, it is a great one.
