Diseases also spread faster, but until now have been winning quite easily. And we haven't really started to directly improve ourselves. If you look at this from the perspective of evolution (where 1000 years are not a lot) it seems we are very, very close to achieving this. I would guess this will accelerate Adaptation by some magnitudes.
