Question - can I simply drop scala into an existing java based maven build? Using something like the scala-compiler plugin https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/or

  Scala is compiled against the jvm, so you're able to e.g. compile a scala jar and call it directly from java. A couple of caveats, though. - collections are different. You'll need to use helpers from JavaConversions, etc. to e.g. turn a Scala list into a Java list. - scala methods with default arguments are irritating to call from java. - avoid the more esoteric scala features
