Facebook Cuts Oculus Rift Price to $499
- IVDV 10y agoThis comes as Intel reduced their CPU prices a few days ago and Nvidia reduced their GPU prices yesterday. Competition is good!

- the_duke 10y agoAhm... ok, so it's 500$ now instead of 600$. If you really want it, those 100$ won't make a difference. If 600 is too much for you, 500 will most likely be too much as well. If we get in the neighborhood of ~ 350, it'll look different. But that article is a ridiculous PR fluff piece.
- rezistik 10y agoIt's 500$ plus the cost of a computer capable of driving it.
- astrodust 10y agoSo $3500.
- hbk1966 10y agoYou can build a computer that could run most of the games for like $600.
- astrodust 10y agoThe problem with VR is dropped frames has a much stronger effect than it does when the same thing viewed on a monitor, too many and it can be instantly nauseating. You want consistent, very high framerates. You're also driving two fairly high resolution screens. That requires a GPU costing at least $600 to do right. Then you need a computer to drive it.
- Yizahi 10y agoMost likely PC VR buyers already have at least average computer. The only thing they will lack is GPU and maybe RAM. GPU upgrade would cost them 200$, so total would be 500+200=700$ and only if they don't already have any sufficient GPU for 2D gaming.
- smackfu 10y agoAssuming their computer is upgradable and not a all-in-one.
- namlem 10y agoThese days that's not so expensive. $600 will get you there.
- JimmyAustin 10y agoI'd put this closer to a $200 cut, just because the hand controllers are so incredibly vital to enjoying VR.

- esturk 10y agohttp://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey According to the survey, it seems FB wants to claw back their lost market share before more VR entrants become an issue.
- astrodust 10y agoThat's some interesting data. Nvidia is really killing it lately.
