Fox News trained half the country to ignore facts and got them to think everyone else is lying, which led to a politically naive and easily manipulated group of voters. Then Fox News legitimatized Trump into a political figure by giving him a platform to attack Obama and de-legitimatize him as a President. It's a very ugly moment in history for America and frankly I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. Until America reinstates the Fairness Doctrine and we have real campaign-finance reform that overturns Citizens United, this is the new America that we will live in.
- yborg 10y ago>new America I would consider Joseph McCarthy an ur-troll by this account, and so no, none of this is new. And one of his chief accomplices was Richard Nixon, so the troll to White House route has even been previously traveled.
- mirimir 10y agoMcCarthy was arguably serious, and so not a troll. Maybe it was his critics who were trolling ;)
- esaym 10y agoNot really... Plenty of people were unhappy with Obama. People voted for him thinking that they were going to get entitlements and other "free" stuff. And those people are generally not happy with the only thing happening is they are now required to pay $5,000+ a year for a health insurance plan with a $6,000 deductible. Hard to argue that that is "better than nothing". Even if you are uninsured/self pay, hospitals routinely offer %70 discounts for self pay customers. People are also generally more and more disgusted with jobs that keep getting sent overseas. Couple that with the large group of the left that has been protesting everything and calling all who oppose as racist, and well Trump started looking pretty good.
