You're not motivated because you did not get what you wanted (leadership position) and you identify yourself as being superior to those whom are in your position (dumb, working on useless things).
Motivate yourself by either pulling up those around you or leave for what you really want to do.
- beachstartup 10y agohe's just another self-important code monkey who has deluded himself into thinking he's a an under-appreciated genius, if only these idiots he's surrounded by would recognize him for his true greatness. yeah, sure he is. it's more likely he will end up like most unreasonably arrogant mediocre people, too afraid and self-deluded to do anything of consequence his entire career. wait until he realizes how much mundane, trivial shit is required with taking a 'leadership position'. funny nobody (yet) in this thread has mentioned "discipline", everyone is so focused on "motivation". as the saying goes, motivation lasts for a day, discipline lasts for a lifetime.
- techstrategist 10y agoThis reads a little negative, but you're right about discipline.
- beachstartup 10y agoit's supposed to be negative. it's shit talk on the internet.
- grzm 10y agoMaybe elsewhere on the internet this is expected. From the HN guidelines: Avoid gratuitous negativity. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

- dom_hutton 10y ago> Motivate yourself by either pulling up those around you This has the added side affect of indicating your ability as a leader, which may in turn lead to satisfying your desired leadership and decision making criterion.
- CodeWriter23 10y agoIt's the old happiness/gratitude inversion. The trap is thinking you will be grateful once you're happy. The truth is being grateful creates happiness. And your example of pulling others up is a fine expression of gratitude.
- frozenport 10y agoOP never said nothing about happiness, OP wanted responsibility and power.
- watwut 10y agoIt also pays off to double check whether they are actually dumb, or whether it is just ressentment talking. Are thay really stupid or rather less experienced or maybe they just have different opinions? If it is disagreement, then it is much effective to argue instead of teach. (I have met a few dudes who confused disagreement with stupidity. )
