I doubt deep learning is a fad, considering how "deep industry" (so to speak) is now slowly getting interested. And I think container orchestration will be a Thing for a long time to come, because it's such a pain in the ass. This will be a source of friction for years to come -- somebody set up the damn containers already -- so I think your choices look safe. OTOH they might be wildly different skills, for better or for worse. The Deep Learning person is probably not going to be the Container Cluster Wrangler.
