My mileage was different. I started using XCode in 2010 and thought it was one of the better IDEs for the Mac. Spent a week watching WWDC videos in that summer and never had any major problem with XCode thereafter. And yes, it got a lot better year after year too. Everyone's experiences vary I guess. I personally don't like most of the heavy IDEs for Java.
