Saving for retirement as a software engineer
- SlipperySlope 10y agoBy following these simple rules I was able to retire from salary work at age 55 and pursue a research dream. The key is not how much money you make. The key is simply living below your means and staying that way even as wealth builds. You live in a house less than you can afford. You drive maybe a used car. You forgo expensive vacations. You eat at home instead of every meal out. You send your kids to public school instead of private school, or maybe homeschool them. But very important - you choose a frugal spouse. Someone who shares your life goals to save a fortune. I've not worried about paying bills for many decades. Living below your means sensibly yields enormous peace of mind. Do it.
