- visakanv 10y ago> The Pentagon is essentially a round building I burst out laughing at this comment, because https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essentialism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essentialism Aristotle: the essential qualities of an object are those properties that make the thing what it is, without which it would not be that kind of thing jonwachob91: a pentagon is essentially a circle Aristotle: u wot m8

- sangnoir 10y agoReducing complex shapes to topology only muddies the discussion. The Pentagon and Apple HQ toruses. Humans are also toruses when you consider the alimentary canal!
- johnhenry 10y agoI would argue that humans are not topologically equivalent to toruses as most humans have many holes beyond the alimentary canal.
- verisimilitude 10y agoYes, but, essentially.
- johnhenry 10y ago... ... correct.
- midgetjones 10y agoIs a torus made of swiss cheese not still a torus?
- johnhenry 10y ago... ... correct.

- midgetjones 10y agoI just want to point out verisimilitude's perfect response, without being too showy by responding directly[0] [0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13707694 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13707694
- sangnoir 10y agoApple HQ also has many other holes besides the park in the middle.
- martinald 10y agohahaha. Amazing.
- twic 10y agoA pentagon is absolutely a circle - for sufficiently large values of five.
- midgetjones 10y agoI'm pretty sure there were castles built hundreds of years before the pentagon that match this description
- schoen 10y agoI had forgotten that the Pentagon isn't solid and has a courtyard. Apple Park's courtyard looks set to be pretty enormous; does anyone know what they're going to do with it?
