Ask HN: Poll: Help me name my startup.
We are just about to start designing our textbook buy-back company's website. We've come up with the following list of ideas, but we can't narrow it down to just one.
We are a online textbook buy-back company. So obviously we need a memorable name, a name that would appeal to college students, and something that sounds reliable.
We want you, HNers, to help us. Vote! And let us know why in the comments
- languagedream 16y agobeermoney.com
- lukeqsee 16y agoThanks, Ryan. But we prefer it to be available. :-)
- WiseWeasel 16y agobooksintobeer.com
- bdr 16y agoI wouldn't use bookhounds.com because a lot of people will remember it as the singular.
- bdickason 16y agoI like bookfire. Simple, has a slightly rebellious edge to it, and memorable.
- Tichy 16y agoLast winter apparently pensioners in the UK bought used books because they were cheaper than coal for heating their homes...
- WiseWeasel 16y agoToo many obvious anti-intellectual connotations, i.e. Fahrenheit 451, Nazi Germany or the Catholic Church.
- marilyn 16y agocash4books.com seems to be available
- JangoSteve 16y agoThat makes me think of cash4gold.com, which has scammy connotations (after all the insider reports of their scams).
- gxs 16y agolukesbooks. KISS.
- lukeqsee 16y agoWe are.
- decadentcactus 16y agoI voted bookpanda, because pandas are cuddly.
- eps 16y agobookback if you are so set on using "book" in the name.
- mkramlich 16y agoBookPal.com ]> host bookpal.com Host bookpal.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) HOWEVER: NetworkSolutions search says it's taken
- mkramlich 16y agoCheapAssBooks.net .com is taken
- mkramlich 16y agoRetreadBooks.com is avail! ps. did a lot of NetSol searching: wow, domains with 'book' in them are hard to find avail
- danfitch 16y agoBook.io and books.io will be available in less than a month based on what nic.io says.
- eswat 16y agoAs a university student fairbooks.com seems the most appealing to me, since most of the time the cash I get back for selling my books on campus is anything but fair.
- mschaecher 16y agoI was just going to chime in with this as well. Of course they then have to be fair ;) Which if they are, that is probably going to be the base of their messaging for all of their marketing...in which case fairbooks.com is superb
- iamgabeaudick 16y agoMaybe booklook.com - it's for sale.
- mikecane 16y agoI don't like any of these names. You can get away from using books in the name if you come up with a memorable and short adjective or verb that encapsulates the service and "textbooks" can be used in the tagline subtitle. And "bookpenguin" is likely to generate a C&D order from Penguin Books.
- southsidelikeit 16y agoAny ideas?
- kimfuh 16y agobuybackbooks.com, bookbuyback.com, bookbuy.com, hookabook.com, buybooks.com, bbb.com, bookabook.com, hookabook.com, sembook.com
- adamtmca 16y agoBookpanda is memorable enough that I could tell another student about it and they would remember.. fairbooks seems very forgettable.
