I don't know about AWS SES, but I know that compared to Mailgun, SendGrid is a more complex and larger product that has features for marketing campaigns, and it's not API-only - it also has a web UI. It's like a cross of Mailgun and Mailchimp. Mailgun OTOH is a cheaper and more streamlined product. It's for sending and receiving email, possibly in quantity, by developers and developers only. No mailing lists, no campaign metrics, no templates or template editors, just sending and receiving email from code.
