Teenage Iranian chess master banned from national team for not wearing headscarf
- JumpCrisscross 10y ago> the chess world championships in Iran because of the country’s requirement that she don a hijab Did the World Chess Federation get jealous of all the attention FIFA was getting? How is the decision to host an international competition in Iran made?
- ZenSwordArts 10y agoThere are so many stories to tell about the FIDE and corruption. If you are interested google for Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.. the president of the FIDE. He does not need to hide behind Blatter.. It's just soccer is covered by television and chess is not. That's why you don't hear about it usually.
- tzs 10y agoSomeone has already mentioned FIDE corruption. Usually when FIDE does something questionable that is the reason. Not, however, in this case. It's in Iran for the simple reason that only Iran submitted a bid to host it. It was originally supposed to be late last year, but nobody bid, and FIDE had to move it back a few months and try again. On the retry they got a single bid, from Iran.
- tmptmp 10y ago>>Last year, American chess master Nazi Paikidze did not compete in the chess world championships in Iran because of the country’s requirement that she don a hijab. And most of the leftists and liberals here claim that the hijab is a choice in Islam. Granted, it may be a choice for some muslim women mainly those living in the civilized modern world. But in many cases where Islam rules, these are mandatory rules and many Islamic rules are insulting, at the least, to women.
