A CEO of a small company once sent me what might have been a really interesting opportunity and I was going to reply but then I noticed the tracking links and realized it was just a very-well-crafted form letter. I stopped considering it then.
- joshuakarjala 10y agoKeep in mind - the CEO in question could be writing personal e-mails out from an ATS / Sourcing tool that helps keep track of communications. Tracking links are not always == shotgun approach
- HarryHirsch 10y agoTracking links are always extremely bad form, though. I'd be interested in hearing from the other side, though, why such behaviour would be considered acceptable.
- stagbeetle 10y agoBy tracking links do you mean custom-generated links to a certain page that reply back to some software showing that you clicked the link?
- city41 10y agoYes, exactly. Usually they are in the form of http://sometrackingwebsite.com/someid?nextUrl=https://youtube.com/.. http://sometrackingwebsite.com/someid?nextUrl=https://youtub....
- Trundle 10y agoI think of acceptable behaviour in terms of a blacklist rather than a whitelist. I don't have a problem with tracking links because I don't see a reason to have a problem with tracking links.
- rfrey 10y agoTracking pixels on emails aren't always an indication of a form letter. Marketing folks use lots of services that add tracking to all their outgoing email. (Whether that's OK or not for you is a different matter, I'm just pointing out that it could have still been an individual email.)
