Not agreeing the the OP here, but your assertion that "Half your country was \"made\" on the backs of slaves" is wrong. While slavory was a horrific practice in the US, GB, France, the Barbary states, etc... it has nothing to do with the rise of the US anymore than it could be applied to the rise of the other entities I listed.
