Cool. There'll be a shakeup and some heads will roll. Then nothing will change. Maybe we'll even see some privileged white boys complain about how they have to walk on eggshells now without a hint of irony.
- purple-again 10y agoWhile I understand you may feel frustrated by your life experiences, you as an individual get to choose whether to be a hateful bigot or work towards creating an atmosphere of inclusion. Your comment is clearly on the side of hateful bigot and only serves to drive us further apart.
- analogmemory 10y agoYou're welcome to come walk a mile in my shoes. Perhaps you'd feel differently about who needs to create an atmosphere of inclusion.
- usloth_wandows 10y agoYou are part of the problem.
- Arizhel 10y agoThis sounds like victim-blaming to me. I guess you think that women who are sexually harassed or even assaulted should be "working towards creating an atmosphere of inclusion" too, right?
- 234dd57d2c8dba 10y agoThe OP's comment was a politically charged statement that sterotyped all white males. This is the same argument that Trump uses to de-facto ban Muslims. Two wrongs do not make a right, and this kind of comment does not meet the hackernews guidelines for quality posts. I hope you reflect on your hypocrisy.
- grzm 10y agoI hope you reflect on your hypocrisy. Removing this last sentence from your comment would make it a lot stronger.
- drewrv 10y ago> The OP's comment was a politically charged statement that sterotyped all white males. No, it was not. Saying "maybe we'll even see some" is not the same as saying "all".
- 234dd57d2c8dba 10y agoThe post was clearly unproductive race-baiting. Are white males the only perpetrators of harassment at Uber? I think not.
- purple-again 10y agoIf that woman turns around and sexually abuses another individual her behavior will be equally abhorrent to the original attackers which is the equivalent situation to his/her post. You don't get to point at abuses subjected onto yourself by individuals as a way to excuse abusing other individuals. The OP is angry because he's being marginalized by a group of individuals simply because of his race. So he engaged in the exact same behavior and marginalized some other group of individuals based solely on their race. This is the literal cycle of hatred that keeps us divided.
- Arizhel 10y agoSpeak for yourself. As a white male myself, I have no problem acknowledging reality, which is that men are responsible for 99.9% of the sexual abuse in the workplace. I don't do it myself (at least, I sure hope none of my actions are perceived that way, but I'm pretty sure they're not), but I'm not going to get mad that men in general are painted with that brush, because it's been earned, even if I personally didn't do anything wrong. And when would a woman turn around and sexually abuse another individual? How often does that happen? Pretty much never. I think I've heard of maybe two instances of sexual abuse by females in my entire life, and they weren't in tech (one was a publicized case at a Domino's Pizza about 25 years ago, just to give you an idea). Cases of abuse by men are extremely commonplace.
- type0 10y ago> Maybe we'll even see some privileged white boys complain about ... For those who do not know what privilege is look no furter than here: www.urbandictionary.com/privilege I like the second definition which states: "A word used by some people to relay that they are telepathic and know what the other person's circumstances are, and what they were thinking when they said or did something."
