It's a more complex issue than one might expect. While in techie areas of US the overt anti-Russian sentiment is rare. However, he said he's doing freelancing in sysadmin area and still lives in Russia. Most companies that I have interacted with view any vendors outside the G7 with suspicion. Even Poland seemed to raise more security concerns than say France. In that note, Russia is on a whole different level. It's viewed with the similar level of distrust as China. Take it for what it is - a personal anecdote. Yet, it's hard to imagine this kind of experience not having an emotional response.
