Wasn't Free Software Movement and GNU Project (which are the foundation for this whole GNU/Linux distros thing) born because of a certain idealist who was unable to compromise?
- Qub3d 10y agoAhh, RMS. I listened to a recording of one of his recent talks (the Grand Rapids one, IIRC). I regard Stallman the way Randall Munroe regards Ayn Rand: "I found myself enthusiastically agreeing with the first 90% of every sentence, but getting lost at 'therefore, be a huge asshole to everyone.'"
- sametmax 10y agoYou got a point :) But none of GNU is what I would call user friendly or mass-market ready. As a professional, I love it. But without canonical and his compromises, my mother wouldn't be able to use it today. I'm glad I have a solid base, but creating something less radical on top of it will not destroy it.
